This journal documents the Shurtleffs' trip around the United Kingdom. Thoughts and opinions are given of the places they visit, as well as historical and factual information that is taken from guidebooks. Includes a general index, an index of places visited and one drawing by Arthur Shurtleff.

Their trip to Chester included: the old cathedral, St John's church ('tomb of our ancestors)', Warburton chapel, the ancient crypt, the bakery, the old bridge, and a meeting with Mr and Mrs Gladstone.

Other places and attractions they visited include: the ruins of Conway castle, the old palace of Queen Elizabeth, Darwin's home, Warwick castle, Shakespeare's old school house, the River Avon, Worcester cathedral, Tintern abbey, Chepstow castle, Bristol cathedral, schools in Clifton, Stonehenge, Salisbury cathedral, Winchester cathedral, the home of Lord Tennyson and many other places.
