Volume II of this journal contains an account of Sarah Shurtleff's travels around Italy with her husband. Tourist attractions visited in Rome include: the Vatican, St Peter's Basilica, Vatican frescoes, Sistine Chapel, Piazza di Spagna, Trajans Column, Trevi fountain, Capitoline Hill, Piazza del Popolo, Palatine Hill, Pantheon, Castel Sant'Angelo, Keat's and Shelley's graves, Via Appia, Borghese Garden, Temple of Vesta, statue of Marcus Aurelius, Colosseum, Temple of Saturn and the church of St Bernadino.
Sights seen in Florence include the Ponte Vecchio, the Uffizi, Santa Maria Novella, the Loggia dei Lanzi, the Palazzo Vecchio and the Baptistry. Sights in Pisa include: Campo Santo, the Baptistry, the Leaning Tower and others. More everyday details are also included such as: the hotels they stayed in, the food they ate and the acquaintances they met.
Throughout the journal there are numerous paste-ins and inserts of ephemera, such as picture cards and photographs, illustrating places they visted and local people.
