- In November 1901, Helen Jackson Piper (1882-1958) left Vancouver, Canada, on board the ship Benjamin Sewall bound for Fremantle, Australia. In October 1902 the ship was wrecked by a typhoon off the coast of Taiwan. A bound typescript entitled 'The Girl in the Lifeboat', an account of her voyage, written by Piper and edited by William and Esther Prosser in 1959. 'The Girl in the Lifeboat' contains her 1902 journal which, with other information about the ship, was published in Douglas Egan, Ship Benjamin Sewall (1983).
